Albers was also occupied with psychologic phenomena during the 1960s, he examined the reciprocal effect of colors in form of a number of variations of the reactangle. "All perception of color is deception [. ]. We do not see colors the way they actually are. They change in our perception, for example, in a way that two different colors look the same and two identical colors appear different, or opaque colors seem transparent, certain forms become unmistakable. This "play" of colors - their changing identity - is the subject of my studies." (Quote from: Eugen Gomringer, Josef Albers, Starnberg 1968, pp. 103f.). With his intensive studies of colors Josef Albers had decisive influence on Op-Art, Kinetic Art, Colorfield Painting and New Abstraction.
