Dimensions of lemon: variable. In original wooden box. According to the artist, the lemon, which serves as battery, should be replaced after 1000 hours of operation. Released by Edizione Lucio Amelio, Naples 1985. [EL].

Equivalent to fat and felt, the lemon in this work has to be regarded as a source of energy. This way the artist symbolically hints at forces of orientation that modern man is missing. As a recollection of nature's primal forces and under the oftem-cited assumption of the social sculpture, this multiple "Capri-Batterie" marks a central point in Beuys' art.
