PROVENANCE: From artist's estate.

In the 1960s Manzù expanded his range of motifs, which had till then been focused on pictures of cardinals, by an erotic component with the series "Amanti" and the theme "Striptease", of which he made a first, almost three meter large version in 1967. With regards to drapery and posture, this work, a later variant of the theme, calls reminiscence of Renaissance statues and delivers proof of Manzù's technical mastery. The naked female figure's gracefully built body is concealed by a voluminous cloak. Just by spreading her arms, the figure, which in her posture reminds of "Maria immaculata" depictions, would reveal her beautiful female body. In this bronze Manzù captured this moment of erotic illusion with great mastery.
