As of 1955 Nay began to make his "Scheibenbilder" (disc pictures) in which round color fields organize subtle space and color modulations. This sheet is a very early work from the series the artist made into the early 1960s. At first sight it seems as if the watercolor originates from a swift and spontaneous process of creation, but that was not the case with any of Nay's watercolor works, instead they are the result of a well-thought-out composition.
