Kondakow, Konservator an der St. Petersburger Ermitage. "This book is undoubtedly a masterpiece of the Russian printing industry . It has no equals either in terms of workmanship or in terms of the funds involved" (Vengerov). - "600 copies were printed, in editions of 200 in French, German and Russian, which were given, not sold, to friends and instituions" (Fekula). - Porträt und Titel leicht stockfleckig. Einbd. tls. geringfüg. fleckig, Kanten stellenw. etw. beschabt. Gutes, innen sauberes Exemplar.

With chromolithographic dedication with patterned silver foil background, portrait frontispiece, chromolithographic additional title, title printed in red within chromolithographic border, chromolithographic divisional titles, initials and tail-pieces and 31 chromolithographic plates. Orig. morocco, richly tooled in gilt and black, chromolithogr. endpapers, edges printed in red, gilt and silver, with the silk place-mark. In cloth case. - Portrait and title slightly foxed. Binding minim. stained in places, edges partly with some scratching. Else fine, inside clean copy.
