As of 1955 Nay began to make the "Scheibenbilder" (Disc Pictures), in which round color fields organize subtle modulations of space and colors in the picture. This sheet is one of the earlier works in this series. Nay made these works up into the early 1960s. At first sight this watercolor appears like a light snap-shot. However, Nay never rendered his watercolors in a spontaneous manner, instead they are the result of a concentrated and intentional composistion.
