Flower watercolors are an important part of Emil Nolde's graphic creation. Their suggestive color effect reveals the same artistic intention as Emil Nolde's paintings do. Apart from all shapeliness, it is the color that determines the tenor of these works. Owed to his acclaimed wet-in-wet technique, the colors emanate a direct sensual appeal that is hard to find in any of his paintings. The color's suggestive power dominates the composition which only consists of a few densely packed blossoms in close-up view. This way the artist creates a striking visuality that characterizes the entire work complex.
