The work is registered in the artist's workbook from 1954 under the number BB 16. [EH].
With a written expertise issued by the Gabriele Münter- and Johannes Eichner-Foundation, Munich, from 04 May 2016 (mentioning the work with the title "Strauß mit zwei Sträußchen").
PROVENANCE: Private collection Hesse (obtained as present from Gabriele Münter's niece in 1959).

The technique of using a lean oil-based paint on firm paper is particularly characteristic of Gabriele Münter's later flower compositions. A strong contour emphasize the composition's graphic arrangement, which is borne by the summer flowers' gaudy colors. This sheet with one large and two small vases is an unusually dense composition with a balanced radiance.
