Albert Flamm studied architecture at the academies in the Flemish town of Leuven and in Düsseldorf. In 1840he entirely turned to painting. He took lessons with Oswald Achenbach from his brother Andreas. Over the following years they went on journeys to the rivers Rhine and Mosel, to Southern Tyrol and Upper Italy. From 1850 to 1853 Flamm lived in Rome from where he went on journeys to Naples and Sicily. In the following he settled in Dusseldorf, however, he went on numerous journeys to Italy with various painter colleagues every year. In 1871 he substituted Oswald Achenbach in the landscape class at teh Dusseldorf Art Academy for a year. Flamm was member of several artist associations and in 1848 founding member of the renowned Dusseldorf group "Malkasten". Both as far as style and themes are concerned, Albert Flamm was quite influenced by his highly gifted friend Oswald Achenbach, however, he also found his own style.
