Das interessante Renaissance-Kompendium behandelt zahlreiche Gebiete der alten Naturwissenschaften, darunter Astronomie, Geographie, Hydrographie, Metereologie, Metallurgie, Pyrotechnik, Optik, Musik, Zoologie und Botanik, Dendrologie, Anthropologie und Psychologie etc., u. a. auch mit einem kurzen bibliographisch nicht erfaßten Eintrag über Amerika (nicht bei Sabin und Alden/Landis; letzterer verzeichnet nur seine "Historiae synopsis" von 1580). - Gleichmäßig schwach gebräunt, Titel mit größeren ergänzten Fehlstellen (vo. leichter Buchstabenverlust).
Zum Einband: Die Platte des Vorderdeckels mit Halbporträt Kaiser Karl V. mit Spruchband, die Rolle mit den Allegorien Temperantia, Caritas, Spes und Fide sowie Stecherangabe "M V" (Haebler I, 393, VIII). Der Rückdeckel zeigt das Halbporträt Kaiser Maximilian II. (Haebler II, 80, XXIII; ohne Zuschreibung an eine Werkstatt). - Mazal (Europäische Einbandkunst, Nr. 151) verzeichnet einen Reuter-Einband mit dem Datum 1592, der die gleichen Besitzer-Initialen aufweist wie das vorlieg. Exemplar und mit der genannten Maximilian-Platte versehen ist. - Insges. gutes wohlerhaltenes Exemplar in einem schönen Wittenberger Renaissance-Einband.

Wittemberg binding by Thomas Reuter, blindstamped pigskin, outer roll of Faith, Hope, Charity and Temperance on both covers, central panel on front cover of Emperor Charles V. signed "M V", and on rear cover of Emperor Maximilian II, the front cover stamped with the initials "I S Z M" and the date "1594". Cf. Mazal, Europäische Einbandkunst, no. 151, recording a binding by Reuter with the same owner's initials, dated 1592, and the same plaque of Maximilian II on the front cover. - Minor even browning, title at margins with large defective spot (mended, verso with loss of few letters). Fine copy.
