PROVENANCE: Private collection Rhineland (from the artist's studio).

With his works Heinz Mack, the master of reduction, found his very own spot in modern art. Through the artistic integration of light and shade, objects by Mack are detached from their material basis and change, depending on light incidence, to ever new ephemeral creations. It is no longer about the forms' materiality that makes for the overall impression, it is the light that determines the expression, it dematerializes the matter and takes it to another level. The overall impression of his poetic creations changes with direction and intensity of the light. This way they avoid – just as it is the case with this work - any form of concreteness, not only in terms of choice of subject, but also by letting the observer participate in an almost metaphysical art experience.
