Naturforschers Jean Baptiste Audebert (1759-1800), sein schönstes ornithologisches Werk. Audebert hat den Farbendruck in die ornithologische Illustration eingeführt, "er stach und druckte seine Darstellungen meist selbst, so daß sie in dieser Hinsicht wohl die volkommensten sind. Vor allem seine Oiseaux dorés , die erste Prachtdarstellung der Kolibri .. haben ihn alle Register seines Könnens ziehen lassen. Doch gleichen sie mehr einer Sammlung von Gemälden, denn von wissenschaftlichen Illustrationen" (Nissen S. 47). - "Audebert died in the middle of publication - the book was originally published in 30 parts - and the work was continued by Vieillot, whom we see also under his own name" (Sitwell/B.)
