Signed, dated and titled lower right. On laid paper by C.Fichtner (with watermark). 38 x 46 cm (14,9 x 18,1 in), the full sheet.
This drawing is a preliminary work for the painting "Vult und Walt" (Vogt 1934/1). The title hints at the two antagonists, two brothers, in Jean Paul's novel "Flegeljahre". Heckel used the familiar scenery of the beach and the cliffs of Osterholz on the Flensburg Bay as setting. [EH].
The work is registered in the Erich Heckel estate, Hemmenhofen on Lake Constance. We are grateful to Hans Geissler for his kind support in cataloging this lot.
