With this dark-toned "Grablegung" it can be assumed that it is one of the draft made for the 14 Stations of the Cross of the Church of Our Lady in Kaiserslautern in 1914, of which only two were executed as large formats (cf. ex. cat. Josef Eberz. Bau- und raumbezogene Arbeiten, Wandmalereien, Mosaiken, Fenster, Altarbilder, Kunstsammlungen der Stadt Limburg, 28 November, 1997 - 11 January, 1998, pp. 18-23). [KP].
