Dorf. Um 1916/17.
Pen and India ink drawing and watercolor.
Not in Vogt. Verso with estate stamp (Lugt 2143 a) as well as with signature "Frau Christian Rohlfs" (that is Helene Rohlfs, artist's wife). On light creme wove paper. 20,5 x 29,2 cm (8 x 11,4 in), the full sheet.
With another fullpage landscape in watercolor over pencil on verso.
Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by Prof. Dr. Paul Vogt from 17 March, 2011.
"Christian Rohlfs often left Hagen to visit friends in the nearby Sauerland, they were among the firsat collectors of his works. [..] He had always been fascinated by piscturesque small villages, and here he also found sufficient motifs that would inspire his work." (Quote after: Paul Vogt, confirmation of authenticity). Swiftly rendered with dark outlines, accentuated in subtle colors, Rohlfs' concentrated his landscape depiction on the essential. Peace and quiet of this motif suppress the terrible war which had really got to the artist. [DB].
