Wood p. 546. - Second edition of the famous 'Amboina Curiosity Cabinet', first published in 1705. - "This rare folio is important because of its early descriptions and depiction of faunal (mainly marine) life in the Dutch East Indies (the Moluccas especially) at the end of the seventeenth century" (Wood). - The merchant and natural scientist Georg Eberhard Rumpf (1627-1702) stayed on the maluku island of Ambon as of 1653 on behalf of the Dutch East Indies Company, where he was the first to research local fauna and flora. The work is still regarded as fundamentalyl important. - The very nice detailed plates in strong impression. "Redrawings of insufficient models are ascribed to M. S. Merian " (Nissen). - Somewhat foxed (mostly in white margin), with isolated brownish spots (8 ll. and 2 plates somewhat stronger), isolated slight squeezemarks, binding slightly loosened. Cover with traces of use. All in all fine and untrimmed copy.

Second edition. With engr. frontispiece, engr. title vignette, engr. portrait, 60 copperplates and 5 engr. head vignettes, all in strong impressions. Contemp. half vellum (colored). - Foxing (mostly in the white margins), here and there brownstained (8 leaves and 2 plates stronger), some printer's creases, binding slightly loosened. Binding with signs of use. All in all fine untrimmed copy.
