Werner Koch's still lives seem like picture puzzles to the observer: pipes, cigars, matches, a vessel, a statue of a goddess and an edition of Honoré de Blazac's "Les Cent Contes drolatiques" together on a small table adorned by a blue tablecloth, positioned in front of an erotic scene from the South Sea. We do not know who had commissioned the work or if the artist made it for himself - one thing is clear, however, the depicted objects hint at the identity of a mysterious personality. [KP].
