Tigre, commanded by Sydney Smith, the hero of Acre, to whom the work is dedicated. H. M. S. Tigre took part in the English campains against the French in Egypt and Syria" (Blackmer). - Tafeln tlw. im w. R. angeschmutzt, 3 Taf. wasserrandig, erste Textbll. leicht sporfleckig, 1 Taf. mit hinterl. kl. Randeinriß, Schutzpapiere tlw. eingerissen und mit Fehlstellen sowie vereinz. neu montiert. Einbd. berieben und bestoßen, Rücken lädiert. Schöner breitrandiger Druck auf kräftigem Papier.
Scarce first edition. With engr. portrait and colored aquatinta plates. Contemp. half calf. - Plates partly soiled in the margins, 3 plates waterstained, first few text leaves slightly moulded, 1 plate with backed tear, protective paper partly torn and with defective spots and partly new mounted. Bindung rubbed and bumped, spine damaged. Fine wide-margined copy on strong paper.
