In 1911 Ernst Ludwig Kirchner moved house from Dresden to Berlin. He describes the years years from 1911 to 1914 as the loneliest years of his life, "years during which the inner torturing uneasiness drive me out of the house and into the streets teeming with people and carriages". Kirchner's famous street scenes originate from those days, works in which he made a great effort to strikingly sketch big city life. [EH].

This work is registered in the Ernst Ludwig Kirchner Archive, Wichtrach/Bern.
