PROVENANCE: Private collection Rhineland.
Fischerhude is a location of central importance in the work of Otto Modersohn. Like no other, he brought this scarce landscape to life in his drawings and paintings. It is particularly the diffuse lighting conditions that give this moor landscape its special imprint. Otto Modersohn‘s paintings are obliged to a Romantic Realism, a style to which he remained true up until an old age. The motifs in their rural simplicity are entirely left to the light atmosphere. It is a quiet calmness that Modersohn‘s paintings emanate, a non-existence of the presence that the viewer is unaffectedly confronted with. [KD].
