Unlike the large-sized wall paintings that Ebertz executed for churches and that are known for a certain pathos, his landscape paintings are a lot more humble. The coloring is rather reserved and serves the composition more than the statement.
In this work the objective depiction is dominating. It is just the old olive trees in the foreground that merely hint at an Italianità. The branches, foliage and trunks show a development away from an expressive towards an objective statement. [KD].
