Handbound black morocco binding with gilt lettering, broad calf insde borders and marbled endpapers in yellow, black and gold (orig. wrappers bound in); in slipcase. Small 4to.Ritzer A 35. - Slg. Mises 730. - 1 of 50 numb. copies of the rare de-luxe edition on Montval paper (complete print run 1307). - Nice, broad-margined and untrimmed press print on creme paper, title in orange and black. Printed by J. J. Augustin (Glückstadt - Hamburg - New York). Copy with etched Rilke portrait by the French painter and sculptor Lou Albert-Lasard (1885-1969); who was a friend of the poet in World War I, the portrait was made in Rodaun in 1916. - With the facsimile of a poem by Rilke that had been unknown up until that point ("Wie die Vögel, welche an den großen Glocken wohnen .. " ), and with preface by J. Cassou. - Binding with isolated minimal traces of rubbing. Besides a few fox marks a clean and well-preserved copy. Rare de-luxe print in a thoroughly made morocco binding with lavishly decorated endpapers.
