PROVENANCE: Private collection South Germany.
The easy lineament of the strokes of th echalk, coupled with the wipings, show Kirchner’s objective to also create a pictorial effect in drawings. The subject requires a moment of realization, which gives the observer the opportunity to focus entirely on the drawing. Such kind of experiments were met with great incomprehension by academic circles, however, they were an important step into a direction that would be decisive for Kirchner. [KD].
