"There were numerous translations of the treatise, as Palladio's ideas aroused a great deal of interest, especially in France and England. Palladio's book made an enormous contribution to the affirmation of classicism and the authority of Vitruvius and was especially influential in the Anglo-Saxon world." Engr. frontisp., engr. portrait, 203 copperplates and 12 text engravings. Contemp. calf with rich gilt decoration on spine. - With slight foxing mainly in the margins and occasionally slight waterstaining (2-3 plates stronger affected), 2-3 plates brownstained. Binding somewhat rubbed, hinges and extremities of spine restored.
