Archenholz knew both countries from longer stays, he compared both countries, particularly in terms of their systems of government and treasured especially England, whereas he was not so fond of Italy. "Archenholz did more than any other man to present a complete picture of England to Germans. His fifteen years of study and travel well qualified him as an observer of different peoples and their manners, and his views of England served Germany for a quarter of a century as their chief source of information."
