The illustrations in the present edition are drawn from several sources, but most of them are prints from the plates of the original French treatise" (Wood). - Nahezu vollständige Reihe der ersten deutschen Ausgabe der berühmten Edition, es erschienen lediglich noch ein weit. Band (35) sowie 2 Suppl.-Bände. 23 Bände liegen in schönem Altkolorit vor, lediglich 11 Bände blieben unkoloriert (9-12, 15-17, 25, 32-34). - Tlw. fleckig und gebräunt, vereinzelt gestempelt und etw. wasserrandig; Einbde. unterschiedl. beschabt und bestoßen, einige Einbände und Bindungen erneuert. Über weite Strecken sauberes Exemplar in ansprechendem Kolorit.
First German edition. "One of the most valuable of the many editions of this remarkable work". With 11 engr. coloured frontispieces, 23 engr. coloured title vignettes and 1505 (1110 coloured) copper plates. Mostly contemp. half calf. - Stained and browned in places, with isolated stamps; various scuff marks on bindings, some bindings have been renewed. However, quite clean copy in an appealing colouring.
