66,5 : 62 cm (26,1 : 24,4 in). The Haarlem landscape painter Hendrik Mommers is a student of N. Berchem and joind the Haarlem guild in 1647 and becomes dean in 1654. He travels to Italy and paints landscapes in the style of his teacher, shepherd's scenes and markets with decorative figures. Just as in this paininting, ancient buildings and ruins often serve as the background. [AS]
