Only edition, 3 parts in 1 vol.. - Very rare description of the tremendous earthquake in November 1755, which entirely destroyed two thirds of Lisbon and numerous other cities. This earthquake, which took 30.000 lifes in Lisbon alone, is still seen as an important landmark of European intellectual history of the modern era. The anonymously released publication in three parts comprises, besides numerous physical explanations and annotations, a geographic description of Lisbon as well as several news and observations from other cities and countries. The two folding coppers with two nice views of thew city.
8 further contemp. writings bound in, commentary, sermons and theologic views on the earthquake, which were publlished in Stockholm, Zürich and Bern a few months after the earthquake had happened, - among them on Die Absicht Gottes - Das Erdbeben als ein Zeichen der Macht und des Zorns Gottes - Das Ende der Welt, etc. - An unusual Sammelband on this important historical event, all other writings are also quite rare. - 1 folding plate slightly torn.
