Good overall impression. Restored tear in the right margin (ca. 2 cm). All in all slightly discoloured. The upper corners verso loosely mounted on backing.

Monogrammed and dated lower left. On laid paper. 32 : 24,5 cm (12,5 : 9,6 in), the full sheet. Fritz Burkhardt trained with Adolph Schinnerer at the Munich Art Academy. Close ties of friendship bound Burkhardt to the Franconian painters Eduard Aigner and Reinhold Pallas, with whom he co-founded the Bund fränkischer Künstler [Franconian Artists’ League]. Burkhardt’s drawings are expressive and veristic with strong erotic overtones. He depicts the world of prostitution with no holds barred. Burkhardt was particularly fascinated by the criminal environment of brothels and seedy pubs. Many of the models who sat for him were prostitutes and his studies of their bodies are informed by an uncompromising realism. [BR]
