Früchtestillleben mit Papagei. 17th century.
The motif of this still life shows clear similarities to the motif of a work from a Swedish private collection
Oil on panel partly parquetted.
54,6 : 69,2 cm (21,4 : 27,2 in). The fruit still life establishes itself shortly after the first flower still life is made around 1600, as an own type of Dutch painting. Just like this work, it always depicts a basket or a porcellain bowl on a sideboard, filled with fruits such as apples, quinces, pears, plums, berries or grapes. Similar as on the flower still lifes, the fruit still lifes also show single fruits, flowers or shells lying next to the basket or bowl, along with small animals and insects. [AS]
EXPERTISE: With a letter from Mr Fred G. Meijer, Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie, LK's-Gravenhage, from 10 December 2007
PROVENIENZ: Private collection South Germany
Good overall impression. Edges slightly rubbed due to the framing. With horizontal tear (parquetted on verso), here with small retouchings. Background area with isolated tiny overlaying pigment flakes.
