Signed lower left. 21,5 : 16 cm (8,4 : 6,2 in). Germain Théodule Ribot began his education in the arts first with his father, who was a genre painter, and later studied under Antoine Vollon. While Germain's father dedicated himself to a repetoire of different topics, Germain oriented himself toward still lifes, which, at the time, had become very popular. His arrangments appealed to a wide audience; from 1870 onward, the artist participated in salon exhibitions in Paris. [LB]
