T. auf sehr großen Platten ... ablichtete. 1856 unternahm er seine erste Reise nach Ägypten, der 1857 eine zweite und 1859 eine dritte folgte ... Bildberichte aus dem Vorderen und Hinteren Orient wurden nach F. zu einer Art 'Mode', der sich auch Fotografen wie Bourne und Bedford nicht verschließen mochten" (Kirchbaum, p. 67). - "Frith's next project, a fourth-volume, 148-albumen-print reissue of the Egypt and Palestine and Cairo, Sinai, Jerusalem, and the Pyramids of Egypt photo ... were awarded a prize medal at the 1862 International Exhibition in London" (Manchip W.). - Photographs with views of Baalbek (3), Damascus (3), Gaza (2), Hebron (2), Jerusalem (13), Nablus, Nazareth, Tiberias (2) et al. - With brown stains (photogr. sporadically), flying endpapers stained by damp. Binding stained and rubbed, outer joints and spine repaired.
Scarce first edition. Vol. I (of 3). With lithogr. title with fotogr. vignette and 36 orig. fotographs mounted on plates by F. Frith. Contemp. half calf with gilt cover lettering and gilt edges. - With brown stains (fotogr. sporadically), flying endpapers stained by damp. Binding stained and rubbed, outer joints and spine repaired.
