Ausg. 1608): "Très rare ouvrage". - Nicht in der Honeyman Coll. - Erste Ausgabe. - Außergewöhnlich seltenes Werk des mit Galilei und Kepler befreundeten Mathematikers Magini (1555-1617), der mit dieser Schrift seine Leidenschaft für die Astrologie offenbarte. Seit 1588 bekleidete er den Lehrsitz für Mathematik an der Universität Bologna, "he alternated lectures on Euclid with classes in astronomy, which, stimulated by his passion for astrology, was actually his chief scholarly interest ... Magini wrote several astrological works that were admired in their time, and also served the Gonzaga prince of Mantua as judicial astrologer (with varying results). For this reason he spent long periods of time in that city." (DSB IX, 12) - "Ouvrage intéressant pour l'histoire de l'application de l'astrologie à la médicine. Aprés la mort de Magini, arrivée 1617, sa réputation comme astrologue fit séquestrer par le Saint Office ses papiers et manuscrits. Ceux-ci furent alors perdus, sauf de très rares exceptions." Knickspur, Titel mit alten Besitzeinträgen, Druckermarke alt ankoloriert, Titel und letztes Bl. mit kl. Sammlerstempel; feste Vorsätze gelöst. Insgesamt gutes Exemplar.Scarce first edition. Magini, mathematician and astronomer at Bologna, friend of Galilei and Kepler, showed with this work his passion for astrology. With woodcut printer's device on title and some woodcuts in text (mostly schematic). Contemp. flex. vellum. - Partly some browning, trace of worming at upper margin to last 25 leaves, few leaves with marginal creases, old ownership to title, printer's device partly coloured, small collector's stamp to title and last leaf, flying endpapers detached. Altogether good copy.
