Signed and dated lower right. Signed, dated, titled and inscribed on the reverse. 130 : 162 cm (51,1 : 63,7 in). This late painting of Corpora’s demonstrates his delight in experimenting with all sorts of different media and materials. From 1975 the Italian painter, who had previously worked in oils with Cubist, abstract and Expressionist forms of expression, primed his canvas with plaster, sand or pulverised marble. On this ground he immitated the motion and reflections of the sea in tempera and fluorescent colours. Thus abstract, highly expressive colours meet with a sand relief in ‘Mare in Bretagna’ [‘Sea in Brittany’]. [AS]
