Edward Wells (1667-1727) "has several popular schoolbooks on geography and mathematics to his name, an edition of the Periegesis of Dionysus that went through several editions, as well as homiletic, theological, and controversial writings. His Treatise was the first educational atlas to be printed at Oxford, and the maps, if smaller in scale than those of Pitt's great work, are fine examples of engraving. The work was a deserved success, and has reached a fifth edition by 1738."
