EXHIBITION: Ashley Bickerton. Four Pillars, White Cube, Dukt Street, London, June 6 - July 5, 1997.

In the exhibition, Ashley Bickerton explores four important aspects of Western art history: self-portrait, nude, crucifixion, and patronage. "These provocative paintings depict life-size figures with great attention to detail. Bickerton uses pencil, acrylic, and oil paint on wooden panels to create these exquisite, meticulously hyperreal paintings, images reminiscent of the graphic brilliance of 15th-century Northern European painting. With these images, the artist provided a poignant commentary on the longevity of the relationships between money, religion, sex, and narcissism."
