Lower right signed and dated. On off-white watercolor paper. 17.7 x 25.5 cm (6.9 x 10 in), size of sheet. [JS].
• Atmospheric, small Lake Constance landscape, which hints at the onset of spring thanks to the bright yellow chalk accents.
• From a series of small-format watercolors in which Dix masterfully captured the seasons on Lake Constance with their different color and light moods since the early 1950s.
PROVENANCE: Private collection Southern Germany (presumably directly from the artist).
Private collection Hesse (from the above in 2009).
LITERATURE: Suse Pfäffle, Otto Dix. Werkverzeichnis der Aquarelle und Gouachen, Stuttgart 1991, no. A 1955/19 (illustrated in black and white).
In good condition, with scattered traces of color and rubbing in the margins, partly due to the technique, and with a tiny pinhole in each corner.
