• Gifted from Rudi Baerwind who co-exhibited with Noël.
• Georges Noël's works are at, among others, the Centre Pompidou, Paris, the Musée d'art Moderne de Paris, the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
The artwork will be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisoneé
under the number GN-1965-P010. We are grateful to Margit Rowell, Paris,
for her kind support.
PROVENANCE: Private collection Southern Germany (inherited), obtained as present from Rudi Baerwind.
It was not until the mid-1950s that Georges Noël fully turned to painting, after he had previously worked as a designer and draftsman for an aviation company. He finds his personal expression in an "écriture automatique" which he scratches into a surface made of pigments, sand and glue. Layers become visible.
