[AW].
• Erich Heckel is a founding member of the "Brücke" alongside Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff and Fritz Bleyl.
• In 1914, the artist trained as a paramedic and met Max Beckmann and James Ensor, among others, in medical service in WWI.
• This watercolor clearly reflects the interest in architecture of the former student of architecture.
• The watercolor is of key importance in Heckel's artistic work, it is at times considered his preferred technique and constitutes an independent pictorial genre.
The work is registered in the Erich Heckel estate, Hemmenhofen on Lake Constance. We are grateful to Renate Ebner and Hans Geissler for the kind support in cataloging this lot.
PROVENANCE: Private collection Southern Germany.
LITERATURE: Lempertz, Cologne, auction in December 1959, no. 88 (with illu.).
