Saint Appolonia. 1984.
Silkscreen in colors.
Feldman/Schellmann/Defendi II 332. Signed and numbered. With the copyright stamp "Andy Warhol 1984" on the reverse. From an edition of 250 copies. On board. 76 x 56 cm (29.9 x 22 in), the full sheet.
Andy Warhol made Saint Appolonia, who - as a sign of her martyrdom - presents a tooth she had pulled out with pliers, the motif of this work. Printed by Rupert Jasen Smith, New York. Published by Dr. Frank Braun, Düsseldorf. [EH].
• Warhol's striking creations are icons of Pop-Art.
• Warhol translates the famous Renaissance painting by Piero della Francesca (National Gallery Washington D.C.) into the language of Pop-Art.
• As an unusually prolific artist, Warhol worked in many media, among them film, photography, painting, music and performance, however, his silkscreen prints became the true emblems of his post-modern aesthetics.
PROVENANCE: Private collection Bavaria.
In good condition.
