Bottom right signed, dated and titled. On Zanders laid paper (watermark "Bergisch Gladbach"). 51.5 x 62 cm (20.2 x 24.4 in), the full sheet. [EH].
• As of the late 1920s Heckel increasingly made landscape depictions, both in Germany and on his jurneys in Europe.
• Presumably made during a trip through France in 1926.
• Together with Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff and Fritz Bleyl, Erich Heckel founded the expressionist artist group "Brücke" in 1905.
The work is registered in the Erich Heckel Estate, Hemmenhofen on Lake Constance. We are grateful to Mrs Renate Ebner and Mr Hans Geissler for the kind support in cataloging this lot.
PROVENANCE: Artist's estate (until 1991).
Private collection Southern Germany.
In good condition. All in all slightly discolored. Margins minimally foxed.
