Woodcut, partly worked over with opaque white.
Signed, dated and titled as well as inscribed "Probe". One of 17 known copies. This is the only known copy from the 2nd state. On smooth wove paper. 46.1 x 33.1 cm (18.1 x 13 in). Sheet: 63 x 48,1 cm (24,8 x 18,9 in).

• People by the sea in various constellations are among the artist's central themes.
• Although the motif can be assigned to the summer sojourn in Osterholz, influences from bathing scenes in Ostende can still be recognized here.
PROVENANCE: Hermann Gerlinger Collection, Würzburg (with the collector's stamp Lugt 6032).
