• In admiration of Arnold Böcklin, the artist probably took this scene from his famous and recurring motif "Villa am Meer"
• Even in this early work, Macke's great talent for atmospheric scenes is evident.
With a signed confirmation from Gisela Macke-Thuar (the artist's daughter-in-law), August Macke Estate, from March 13, 1980. [AW].
