Spannobjekt 052. 1970/73.
Acrylic over shaped canvas, mounted on fiber board.
Lower left on verso signed and inscribed 1973/70. 125 x 93 x 11 cm (49.2 x 36.6 x 4.3 in).
[EH].
One of the rare "Spannobjekte" (stretched objects) by the important German Op Art artist.
Axel Dick picks the pictorial illustration of light lines, for example from neon lamps, as central theme of his art. In the late 1960s he made objects with neon and plexiglass. The optical effect of a decreasing light intensity becomes comprehensible through colors and spatial depth in our object. Any space needs light to be perceived as such and light needs space to expand. Axel Dick visualizes this cocnept.
At the time this "Spannobjekt 052" was made Axel Dick was one of the most important German representaties of Op Art.
The exhibition "Optical Art from Brunswick - Axel Dick im kontext der internationalen Op Art-Bewegung" at Kunstverein Wolfsburg from 13 May to 16 August 2009 honored the artists acheivements
Isolated spots of craquelee. Else in good condition.
