• Sol Lewitt was a leading figure of Minimalism and Concept Art.
• From 1965, he created modular works with spatial structures incorporating grid-like constructions that evolved into complex line structures in the following years.
• Lewitt makes the free painterly brushstroke protagonist of the iridescent play of colors.
• Works from the series “Wavy Brushstrokes” are part of important museum collections, including the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Harvard Art Museums in Cambridge/Mass., the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
PROVENANCE: Hans Braun Collection, Baden-Württemberg (acquired in 2010).
LITERATURE: Hauswedell & Nolte, Hamburg, Kunst nach 1945, June 12, 2010, lot 1004 (illu.).
Good overall impression. Isolated spots of slight craquelure, partly with slight flaking. Isolated small losses of color, somewhat more pronounced in the margins. The condition report was compiled in daylight with the help of a UV light source and to the best of our knowledge and belief.
