Lower right signed and dated. On brownish wove paper. 20.8 x 29.5 cm (8.1 x 11.6 in), size of sheet. [CH/AM].
• Part of a Southern german private collection for more than 25 years.
• From a fateful year in the artist's life: In 1943 his home in Berlin was hit in an air raid and a part of his work went up in flames.
• Until the spring of the following year Hartung went to Paris on several occasions, nmeeting, among others, Constantin Brancusi, Henri Laurens and Pablo Picasso.
• Amidst WW II, Hartung conceived an fictional ideal of a n exhibition sertting.
• A year after the war he had a first grand solo show at the Berlin Galerie Gerd Rosen.

LITERATURE: Ketterer Kunst, Munich, 210th auction, Moderne Kunst II, June 11, 1996, lot 787 (with illu.).
In good condition consistent of the age. With mount staining. Margins with isolated splits and a few slight handling marks and creases. Paper slightly wavy in places of the upper margin.
