Lower right signed, dated and titled. On J. Whatman wove paper (with truncated watermark). 54 x 68.5 cm (21.2 x 26.9 in), the full sheet.

• Created on a trip to France in 1926, which inspired the artist to produce spontaneous yet masterfully composed watercolors.
• The coastal strip, painted entirely in orange and brown, contrasts with the soft blue of the sky and the sea.
• Offered on the international auction market for the first time (source: artprice.com).
The work is registered in Erich Heckel Estate, Hemmenhofen on Lake Constance. We are grateful to Mrs Renate Ebner and Mr Hans Geissler for their kind support in catalogingthis lot.

Hermann Gerlinger Collection, Würzburg (acquired from the above in 1982, with the collector's stamp, Lugt 6032)).

In good condition. With two small, unobtrusive marginal tears in lower left and in the center of the right margin (approx. 0.5 - 1 cm) and with a few small brownish stains, mainly along the right margin.
