Figurengruppe - 6 Personen. Um 1932.
Pencil drawing.
Not in Grohmann. On brownish paper, lower edge with perforation. 18.8 x 14.7 cm (7.4 x 5.7 in), almost the full sheet.
Verso with pencil study of a female head in profile.
Accompanied by certificate of authenticity issued by Tut Schlemmer, no date.
PROVENANCE: Artist's estate.
Collection of Dr. Volker Kahmen, Neuss.
Private collection Southern Germany.
The occupation with people and space, which dominates Schlemmer's œuvre , becomes obvious in this pencil drawing. Sketched figures are staggered in different motions and postures, forming a pyramid-like composition. However, different from the walking figures, such as the "Fünf Männern im Raum", these six seem to pause. The composition is determined by calmness and silent observation. [KH]
In good condition. Slightly discolored. Left and upper edge slightly irregular. Lower edge with small split and discernible trace of rubbing. Drawing on verso minimally pushing through to recto.
