Nau[clerus], J., Memorabilium omnis aetatis et omnium gentium chronici commentarii. Adiecta Germanorum rebus historia de Svevorum ortu, institutis ac imperio. Complevit opus N. Basellius. 2 vols. in 1. With large armorial woodcut on title. Tübingen, Th. Anshelm März 1516. New light calf over wooden boards with 2 metal clasps in an old style. Folio. 8 Arab. numb. ll., CLXXXXI numb. ll., 1 blank leaf; 14 Arab. numb. ll., CCCXVII numb. ll.

VD 16, N 167. - Adams, N 76. - BM STC, German Books p. 644. - Rare first edition of the chronic, which was made by order of emperor Maximilian I., among Nauclerus' contemporaries it was popular far into the 17th century. Among the "best and most trustworthy sources", used by Nauclerus presumably also were some medieval texts that are not in existence any longer, making "his chronic one of the most important treasure troves for the history of medieval historiography" (Translation of quote from ADB, XXIII 297). - Lacking in vol. II the last blank leaf. With waterstains, first and last 10 ll. therefor with marginal blemishes, title with defective spot affecting letters and the woodcut and, just as the last ll., new and somewhat uncomely remargined, lacking flying endpapers. - Bookplate.
