Blackmer 1450. - Brunet IV, 1415. - First edition of the plate volume. - Rottiers travelled to Greece by order of the Dutch king. "His original intention was to begin excavations at Delos and Milos, but the laws enacted by the Greek government prevented this. So Rottiers turned his attention to the islands still under Turkish Rules and to Asia Minor, and in the end he fixed on Rhodes." (Blackmer). - The nice lithogr. views after drawings by P. J. Witdoeck, a fellow traveller, the title l. and the map after a design by Rottiers. - The plates show views of landscapes and buildings, fortifications, the harbour, the Colossus of Rhodes, crests, stone plates, tombs etc. - Slightly browned and stained, 6 plates with partly restored tears (2 stronger). Binding scraped and bumped, spine restored.
